This is a great post. I have blogged a bit about this issue. I believe that students lose their faith in college because of two reasons. First reason is that students have not established ownership of their faith. They do not own their faith because only adults have communicate what their faith is suppose to look like. In a sense Christianity has been pre-packaged for them. The second reason is that students are not fully functioning in the church body. They are fully functioning in youth group, but not operating in the main church service. Essentially the youth ministry is an extension of the church that never interacts with the church body. This is a problem because after they graduate from high school ministry, then what? Attending actual big church is too foreign and boring for them because they, the student has never been in an "adult service" before. The student has never been fully assimilated into the church body.
